Head of Mechanical Engineering

You’ll have ownership on: 

  • Provide guidance & governance to design, development and delivery of automotive mechanical systems according to appropriate technical standards.

  • Provide line management and leadership to the mechanical design team & facilitate efficient and effective cross discipline collaboration.

  • Interface & work closely with the Engineering leadership & team, Product Management, Manufacturing Quality, and other functional teams.

  • Authority for mechanical engineering release of the powertrain, fixtures, and driveline components.

  • Work closely with the Management Team to ensure company and departmental objectives are well defined and met.

  • Align, cascade and agree individual objectives to support overall achievement of the company and functional objectives.

  • Encourage and enable the team for delivery of work products considering cost, quality and timing.

  • Perform design reviews of the mechanical team output and manage the engineering releases.

  • Ensure requirements, specifications, standards and legislation are available to the design team and manage non-conformance.

  • Contribute to the continued evolution of Shift-EV’s product development process and ensure that it is understood, managed and executed.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and through technical documentation in English.

  • Exhibit sound interpersonal skills including interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel, customers and suppliers.

  • Make decisions using sound judgement while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles as well as applicable laws and regulations.


You are:

  • BSc/MSc of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 6+ years of experience.

  • Deep knowledge of rotating electrical machines, automotive driveline components, traction batteries and electric motors, suspension loading and heat management.

  • Sound knowledge of mechanical engineering theory including DFMEA.

  • Understanding of hand calculations, FEA and CFD analysis.

  • Proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD ( SolidWorks, AutoCAD preferred)

  • OEM/Tier 1 experience with vehicle systems/assemblies is a plus.

  • Experience of component testing and design of tests.

  • Additional beneficial experience and skills: Experience in automotive, electronics, or battery manufacturing  Experience with adhesive dispensing, joining, or test equipment 

  • Familiarity with, and working knowledge of, mechanical systems: thermal, heat dissipation, vibration, strength, durability, corrosion-prevention, materials, etc. 

  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills. They must be able to balance tight deadlines with demanding engineering requirements.
