ABOUT SHIFT EV:
Shift EV is a fast-growing electric vehicle technology company, based in Cairo, Egypt. Our vision is to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in Egypt and the region by developing state-of-the-art electric drivetrain solutions. You will work with world-class technology veterans from MIT, Intel, and General Motors to build a venture with transformative potential.
YOU’LL WORK ON:
We’re looking for a technical leader to own the design, integration, and delivery of electric drivetrain systems across Shift EV’s vehicle platforms. You will lead a cross-functional team responsible for everything from powertrain architecture and system modeling to supplier management and vehicle integration. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong systems thinking, execution discipline, and collaborative leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the drivetrain engineering team in the sizing, selection, and integration of traction motors, controllers, and power electronics systems.
Define system architecture, control strategies, and interface requirements across high-voltage (HV) systems.
Own the modeling, simulation, and validation of drivetrain performance and efficiency—from component level to full vehicle.
Lead the design and analysis of HV and LV power distribution networks, ensuring safety, performance, and manufacturability.
Deliver complete electrical documentation including schematics, drawings, and wiring harnesses.
Drive design for manufacturing and lead key design reviews, ensuring alignment with product, quality, and manufacturing stakeholders.
Collaborate closely with suppliers on design, performance, and validation of drivetrain components.
Guide test and validation plans, including bench testing, system integration, and vehicle-level evaluation.
Define and enforce engineering standards, processes, and design reviews that enable high-quality, high-speed development.
Contribute to building the engineering operating system, team capabilities, and toolchains for scalable product delivery.
YOU ARE
BSc or MSc in Electrical Power Engineering.
7+ years of experience in electric drivetrain or electric vehicle development.
Deep technical knowledge of electric machines, power electronics, AC drives, and traction battery systems.
Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink, AutoCAD, and tools for system modeling and simulation.
Experience with OEM or Tier 1 system-level electric drivetrain development.
Hands-on experience in electro-mechanical system design, component testing, and control system tuning.
Strong grasp of electric powertrain fundamentals, including control theory, HV safety, and efficiency optimization.
Experience in high-voltage hardware and circuit design.
Knowledge of battery management systems (BMS) and electric machine modeling is a plus.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across disciplines and organizational levels.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM US:
An impact-driven mission, and a world-class team to work with.
A startup where your contributions really count, and an abundance of growth opportunities exist.
Stock options, we want you to be invested in the success of the company.
Shift EV strives to create a meritocratic environment that promotes diversity and offers equal opportunity.
